The Crystals

When Phil Spector discovered The Crystals, they were all still in high school.  They became one of the defining girl group acts of the early 60's with a string of chart hits. The vocal line up went through several changes and for a brief period Spector recorded Darlene Love and The Blossoms as The Crystals. The lead vocal on Then He Kissed Me is Dolores "La La" Brooks and on He's A Rebel, it's Darlene Love. The Wall of Sound effect was genius.

I love the organ in The Tonettes' song I Gotta Know and I can't stop playing The Dells' Run For Cover. The Twist was written and originally performed by Hank Ballard.  The set ends with a sweet cover of Our Day Will Come by Amy Winehouse. Enjoy the music.

  1. Now, didn't these girls look classy? I just love the sixties look ... The music, too, of course.
