LaVern Baker...

was an amazing artist.  She had several hit records on the pop charts in the 50's and 60's. One of her most successful records was Jim Dandy ( #1 R&B, 1956), which I use to start this weeks set. She also spent 22 years as the entertainment director at the Marine Corps Staff NCO club. She continued to make recordings until the mid 90's and became the second female solo artist inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.  She covered the song See See Rider (1963), which was originally recorded in 1924 by Ma Rainey and was recorded by many artists that range from Elvis to The Grateful Dead.
